New ABC show debuts on iTunes before broadcast TV
Apple’s iTunes must be doing something right – the ABC Family channel is trying out the next step. On June 20th, ABC Family will make available their new TV series Kyle XY pilot for free on the iTunes Music Store. What’s so unusual about that? This will be six days before the show premieres on network television. Subsequent episodes will also be downloadable from iTunes at the regular price of $1.99 per episode.
If this experiment is successful, this could be a great way for the networks to test out new shows. Why not throw out a dozen pilots each season and let the audience make the decision on which shows should continue?
