Now that the Apple iTunes Store is a proven success, everyone else wants to get into the game. Throwing its hat into the ring is online superstore Amazon.com. Set to launch sometime in September, the Amazon digital music store is rumoured to sell only MP3-format songs (so it can be played in almost any device).

The fallout between Apple and NBC means that soon we won’t be able to buy The Office from the iTunes Store. If you’re willing to wait for the season to be over, you can bet there’ll be a DVD in it for you.

What do you do if nothing’s on TV? Our friends in the UK can now purchase episodes of TV shows on the UK iTunes Store. Apple is initially offering a limited choice of shows, with hardly any local content available at the start.

The CD is such a great form factor that we’ve really kept the size and increased the capacity instead. A lowly CD can hold “just” 600MB but the latest media can store a whopping 50GB. So what’s next after Blu-Ray and HD-DVD?
