There’s another reason behind NBC’s decision not to continue offering TV shows through Apple iTunes. While the official reasoning is “more flexible pricing” (note no mention of the more restrictive DRM they were apparently asking for), NBC is preparing an alternative distribution channels for its TV shows.

NBC will be bringing its own heavy-hitters such as “Battlestar Galactica,” “The Office” and “Heroes” to Hulu. Hulu is NBC Universal’s partnership with the News Corporation to build a video portal to compete with YouTube.

Expect to see the Hulu private beta sometime in October.
