Website Review : Which credit cards are for you?
When I first started my working life (many, many years ago now), I was immediately bombarded with offers for credit cards. It was more expensive back then. The interest rates were typically 24%, the minimum annual salary requirement was $24,000. Even the minimum monthly payment was set at 15% of your total balance.
Nowadays, the credit card companies are more competitive and have lowered a lot of their requirements. This has caused a lot of young people to sign up for credit cards (and a lot of credit) that they are not capable of using responsibly.
How do you choose the best credit cards? You want those that give you the best interest rates, of course, but make sure you read the fine print. If you have existing credit cards, you may be interested in 0% credit cards, i.e. those that offer 0% interest on the balance that you transfer into the new card.
