FiOS gaining ground against cable companies

Verizon Communications invested US$18 billion to develop its FiOS service, and it’s just beginning to reap the benefits. Verizon has gained roughly 500,000 TV subscribers on FiOS, which uses uses fiber optics to deliver television, broadband Internet and phone services.

Verizon is currently the ninth largest TV service provider in the US, and is rapidly gaining ground against established cable TV and satellite TV providers. By end of 2008, Verizon is targeting 2 million subscribers.

Number one TV provider Comcast is well aware of the threat that Verizon poses, and investors in number 7 (CableVision) are worried about the company’s prospects against competition.

The clear winner will be the customers, as the telcos and the cable guys fight it out with better services and lower prices.

I had cablevision in CT and when we moved to NJ, Comcast. As bad a cablevision was, Comcast was MUCH WORSE! Comcast customer service was a 1 on a scale of 1-10. I’ve been a Fios customer for 10 months and their service is a 10. People show up when promised, customer service is great and if they tell you they will call you back, they actually do! I work from home, use their high speed internet all day, have two phone lines plus a dedicate fax line. Get rid of those comcast or cablevisioin and go with Verizon Fois. (and no, I do not work for Verizon).
