Like most people, I started experimenting with blogging on free platforms. In my case, I started with Blogger (now owned by Google). I still have a couple of non-commercial blogs hosted on Blogger, in fact. If you want full control of your web presence, then you need a dedicated web hosting service. It will cost you money, but it is cheaper that what you might think.

Web hosting capacities have increased tremendously over the past few years, going from just a few megabytes to several gigabytes in storage, and massive amounts of bandwidth included in each package. So how do you choose from the hundreds (or thousands) or different web hosting service providers?

Web Hosting Choice is a great resource for you to find and compare webhosting services. Whether you just want to host just your thoughts in simple text, your photo collection, or even your own audio or video podcasts, you are sure to find something within your budget.

Just as a guidance, unless you intend to distribute large media files, or if you want to offer commerce services (like online shopping), you should not pay more than $100 a year for web hosting.
