Wait, people are still playing games on the PS2? And they’re still buying new PS2s? Apparently, Sony’s previous-generation games console is still quite popular. The PlayStation 2 just crossed over the 50 million mark in North America.

Introduced 8 years ago, the PS2 is still selling surprisingly well, with over 200,000 units shipped in November 2008. That’s more than half the number of PS3s sold during the same time.

Sony has no plans to discontinue the PS2. It should do ok this year, when cost-conscious gamers make their buying decisions.
