I still have a couple of non-commercial blogs hosted on Blogger, in fact. If you want full control of your web presence, then you need a dedicated web hosting service. It will cost you money, but it is cheaper that what you might think.

Aside from an apartment or a house, the biggest expenditure you will probably incur in your life would be your car. I guess owning a car is a much bigger thing in the US than anywhere else, simply because there are coast to coast highways and no tolls!
