It’s been a while since I last wrote about podcasts. I have been a regular podcast listener for close to 5 years now. It certainly helps to have something interesting to listen to during my 3-hour daily commute. My iPhone is always loaded with podcasts, and I thought I’d share my current playlist.

Technology

This Week in Tech (TWiT) is still the main podcast that I listen to every week. Recorded on Sundays, the show is hosted by podcasting heavyweight Leo Laporte. TWiT usually has a great panel discussing the latest tech news. Sometimes the show can get a little bit rowdy, especially when Leo breaks out the wine and cheese for his guests.

MacBreak Weekly is my mid-week pleasure. This is another one of Leo’s shows, and it follows the same panel format as TWiT. The cast on MacBreak weekly tend to be the same, with occasionaly special guests. If you’re interested in all things Mac (and iPhone), you’ll enjoy this.

The only video podcast that I still subscribe to is Geek Brief. Cali Lewis covers what’s new and interesting in technology, usually in 3-5 minute snippets. Watch out for outtakes at the end of every episodes.

One more : GDGT podcast, from Ryan Block and Peter Rojas, of Engadget and Gizmodo fame. My ringtone is set to their theme song.

Entrepreneurship

I’m an entrepreneur by nature, so I’m always interested in start up lessons and stories. I really like the Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders series from Stanford University. This series features great introspection and insight from proven entrepreneurs. Recent speakers include Jeff Hawkins (Palm / Numenta), Sheryl Sandberg (Google/FaceBook) and Steve Ballmer (Microsoft).

A new show that I’ve been enjoying is This Week in Startups from Jason Calacanis. Calacanis is a 3-time entrepreneur, and he practically bursts with energy, which makes TWiSt a great show. Every week Calacanis covers the news and does a good in-depth interview with an entrepreneur. One segment which is really fun (and really useful) is Ask Jason. If you are a startup and have a business dilemma, you can ask Jason on the air.

Entrepreneurship isn’t all about making money. The Social Innovation Conversations podcast covers many different aspects of social change and innovation. You get audio lectures, speaker sessions and conference recordings of topics such as social entrepreneurship, environmental sustainability, philanthropy, corporate social responsibility, responsible investing, and more.

Music

Since I don’t listen to radio anymore, I have to look for different sources to keep me up to date in the world of music. One of the most useful resources that I use is the iTunes Weekly Rewind from Apple. This show goes both deep and wide in the world of music. Each week they cover what’s being played in radio, TV and online. They also do in-depth coverage on certain artistes. It’s quite refreshing to listen to people who are really into music and know their stuff inside out.

My Friday evening drive from work is usually my time to “shut off the brain” and just let the music get me home. That job belongs to the Tiesto’s Club Life podcast. This is a solid one hour mix from DJ Tiesto, featuring new and “classic” tracks from all genres of dance music.

Other Stuff

A podcast that I always look forward to is You Look Nice Today . It’s irreverant, offensive and downright funny. If I’m LOLing with my headphones on, most likely you caught me listening to this show.

Finally : the Creative Screenwriting podcast is great peek behind the scenes of what goes into a movie. Editor in Chief Jeff Goldsmith does live interviews with writers and directors immediately after preview screenings of the latest movies. I love the “breaking in” stories and finding out the process of writing each movie.

So that’s my playlist. What podcasts do you listen to?

Synopsis
S05E11 Home Is The Place
Bree clashes with Alex’s mother (guest star Joanna Cassidy) for their sons’ affections. Gabrielle urges Carlos to take a six-figure job, even though it means spending more time away from home. Susan turns to Lee for company while Jackson is away. Lynette catches Preston talking to Porter on the phone. Meanwhile, Edie grows weary of Dave, whose strange behavior hasn’t abated.

Review
I had expected a filler ep in many ways but this episode instead gave us some very good developments all around. The battle of Bree and her in-laws was interesting, showing again how Bree thinks and that she won’t let anyone boss her around. The Susan/Lee stuff was very good as the two had wonderful chemistry. But more important was Lee’s advice to her, to make sure she knew her feelings before making any serious decisions and it was great to see the two getting along so well.

One of the podcasts that I used to enjoy was the Engadget podcast. Hosted by Peter Rojas and Ryan Block (then Managing Editor and Editor in Chief of Engadget, respectively), the Engadget podcast was erratic in schedule, but always interesting to listen to. After about a year in hiatus, during which both Peter and Ryan left Engadget, they are back with a (so far) weekly podcast for their new project, GDGT. While it’s still not clear what GDGT will become, Peter and Ryan have delivered quite consistently in their podcast.

The GDGT podcast is supposed to cover tech topics in more depth compared to other similar shows. So far, they have done a couple of very detailed roundtable discussions on Apple and on the new Google / Android / HTC / T-Mobile G1 phone.

Around the same time that the GDGT podcasts started, Engadget also revived their own podcast series. Helmed by the “new” Engadget podcast team of Joshua Topolsky, Paul Miller, and Nilay Patel, the Engadget podcast is also an interesting listen, although they do hash out the same current tech news like the TWiT crew.
