What a sad week for Angels fans everywhere … and I mean the real fans of the original series, not the movie revamp from a couple of years ago. As we say goodbye to Farrah Fawcett, let’s remember the good times with the first season of Charlie’s Angels.

The Original Charlie’s Angels
This five-disc compilation features the entire First Season with the original Angels Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith and all their adventures from one of the most classic shows in television history.

Once upon a time, Jill, Sabrina and Kelly were police officers whose skills were being wasted in menial duties such as answering phones and filing. A mysterious millionaire named Charles Townsend took them away from all that by opening his own private investigation agency and hiring these gorgeous ladies as his operatives with John Bosley acting as their assistant and liaison.

America’s guiltiest pleasure of 1976–the inaugural season of Charlie’s Angels–has returned in all its jiggly, jolly glory in this tidy boxed set. It’s hard to describe just how captivated the nation’s media and viewing public were with cheesemeister Aaron Spelling’s ABC-TV hit, but for awhile Charlie’s Angels was wildly popular appointment television at its most self-consciously banal. The first season’s three (and best-remembered) belles–lioness Farrah Fawcett (then Farrah Fawcett-Majors), pin-up babe Jaclyn Smith, and Thinking Man’s beauty Kate Jackson–were something like primetime Spice Girls, gracing countless magazine covers and bestselling posters. The idea (even if a fan of the show didn’t happen to be a straight male) was that one was compelled to choose a favorite angel as a kind of ink-blot window onto one’s subconscious life.

Basically, the three leading characters were bored policewomen wooed away to a private firm owned and operated by the unseen sybarite, Charlie (voiced–over speakerphone–by an uncredited John Forsythe). After a long set-up each week, the girls’ investigations typically saw them going undercover: as fashion models–no great stretch–in “Night of the Strangler”; nurses in “Terror on Ward One”; roller-derby stars in “Angels on Wheels”; and vulnerable convicts (of course) in “Angels In Chains.” The exploitation factor is not as bad as it might have been.

The cast was so glamorous, their chemistry so perfect, Charlie’s Angels never became a mere meat market. Despite such nods to modernity as Fawcett’s no-bra look, the episodes were old-fashioned in their heroine-in-peril appeal, yet there was a difference: The Angels looked out for themselves and each other. –Tom Keogh

Synopsis
24 Season 7, Episode 7 : 2:00PM to 3:00PM

It’s Jack Bauer time! As the U.S. troops remain in position outside of fictional African state Sangala, Colonel Dubaku seeks another high-value target using the CIP module. While the entire NSA scrambles to locate the breach, the situation rapidly escalates. Paranoid FBI Agent Janis Gold commands from her post, while our ex-CTU pals Jack, Tony, Chloe and Buchanan follow leads.

(S07E07) “You’re telling me my husband’s gone missing?” – President Taylor

The plot is starting to shift. We’re one hour past the quarter mark for the season and Dubaku’s well laid out plan has fallen apart already.

Synopsis
24 Season 7, Episode 6 : 1:00PM to 2:00PM

Jack Bauer is back, so you better watch out. As Dubaku presses President Taylor to comply with his devilish demands, she contemplates if the administration should negotiate to avert a disastrous terror attack. Meanwhile, away from the White House and the threatening international crisis, the determined First Gentleman (the Presiden’t husband) struggles with his ongoing domestic mission, and perilous FBI Agent Walker diverts the attention of her tense colleagues.

Review :

(S07E06) “… you have to stay dead.” – Buchanan

This isn’t a good sign. After five incredibly strong hours, Day 7 of 24 just fell flat fast. It’s inevitable in this show; there will be slow and boring hours. You can’t avoid it. However, it typically doesn’t start to occur until hours 12 to 18 – right before the final act.

Granted, we got some solid plot advancement in the sixth hour, but even by 24’s standards, a lot of it was really drawn out.

Synopsis

Meanwhile, lives are on the line as conflicted Agent Renee Walker copes with the volatile investigation. FBI honcho Larry Moss is forced to keep a closer eye on his team as the nation’s security is in jeopardy. At the White House, international stakes are raised and the First Gentleman (i.e., the President’s husband) proceeds with his personal mission.

Review :

With all that being said, this season of 24 is shattering that expectation. For six seasons that’s been the norm, but not so for Day 7. All three major threads (Jack and Tony, Sangala, Roger Taylor) have been thrilling since the clock first started ticking and this episode was a prime example.

As great as it is getting early screeners for a show, believe it or not, there’s actually one caveat – especially when you’re writing reviews. It forces you to choose your words ever so carefully, respecting the fact that not everyone has seen what you have. When it comes to 24, that’s no easy task.
