
Starting from scratch just a few years ago, Apple has done the impossible with the iTunes Store. Now, having sold over 4 billion songs, Apple has claimed the top spot as the largest music retailer in the world. The giant that they had to beat was the mighty Wal-Mart.

One of the less-than-successful products for Apple last year was the Apple TV. Apple did not release an updated version of the hardware at the recent Macworld show, but it did revamp the software (user interface) and made the Apple TV much more useful.

2008 looks like it’s going to be a very exciting year indeed for new media. Amazon is going from strength to strength as a DRM-free music store. Apple could possibly be launching movie rentals through the iTunes Store. The Writer’s Guild strike continues — what will happen to your favourite TV shows?

Last holiday season, it was incredibly difficult to get your hands on the Nintendo Wii. This year, it looks like nothing much has changed. The $250 gaming console is so popular that Nintendo is having trouble keeping up with the demand. After a very successful November (selling 981,000 units in the US, 200,000 more than the XBox 360 and twice as many as Sony Playstation 3), Nintendo is still having a shortage across the US.
